Jetty vs. the Holiday Decorations

Share with fellow cat lovers!

We’re so excited for Jetty’s very first Christmas! In the three months she’s been with us, we’ve seen her high energy level so we had a good idea that Jetty and Christmas decorations might not be a good mix.

We were right.

Back in November, I started setting up little trees for photos. Jetty was ready to help…

Between the chewing and climbing attempts, we quickly saw that we were not going to be able to have our normal Christmas tree and ornaments. Through the years, we’ve been incredibly lucky with our previous 11 other cats; although we gave them “their” ornaments at the bottom of the tree to play with, they never climbed the tree.

Jetty’s another story! This girl loves nothing better than to climb, the higher the better.

So I came up with the idea of bringing in an iron cactus that we have in the garden and stringing it with covered red pepper lights. Pretty indestructible, right? Inca immediately gave it her seal of approval…

But then along came Jetty…

Jetty soon figured out how to climb the cactus and decided the pepper lights were toys. Well, the pepper lights are now on the porch, and the iron cactus is back in the garden.

So, except for the exterior lights and a Christmas rug, the few decorations we got out of storage this year have now been moved to the bathroom, safely out of Jetty’s reach.

But that’s OK. The sight of these two, snuggling like they do every day, is the best holiday decoration our home could ever have!
