Thanks to your purchases in our PawZaar store, we’re so excited to announce that the PawZaar community is sponsoring a cat kennel (and a dog kennel) at the Animal League of Texas for the next six months!

This coming week we’ll find out just which cat is in our kennel, one of the 400 animals cared for at any one time by this no-kill shelter in San Antonio. The shelter, which has a 12-acre campus at 11300 Nacogdoches Road as well as the new Paul Jolly Center for Pet Adoptions in Brackenridge Park, has a full-time vet on staff to provide whatever veterinary assistance is needed by the animals in their care. As you can see by this video of beautiful Bradie, sometimes cats arrive at the shelter in need of extensive veterinary help:

Meet Bradie! Bradie is one of the current residents of our hospital and our “Undercat of the week”! Bradie came into our facility in October after being hit by a car. We instantly knew she was in a lot of pain. Our veterinarian immediately worked on getting her stabilized to determine what exactly had been injured. X-rays were taken, and we discovered Bradie had been hit so badly that her abdominal wall was no longer intact. Her organs had been shifted around and were in the wrong places. She had lost blood flow to her left rear leg, there were numerous fractures in her pelvis, and she could barely move her right rear leg! Bradie needed emergency surgery to repair her diaphragm. Our medical team performed manual breathing for Bradie until her diaphragm was able to function on its own. Her left rear leg had to be amputated, and she needed surgery to repair the right one. She’ll need some more time to recover from the extensive trauma but our Undercat is well on the road to recovery, all thanks to the medical team here at the Animal Defense League of Texas! This is one of the many ways that donations help us help the animals and save more lives. If you’d like to make a donation to help fund Bradie’s medical care, then you can donate at https://adltexas.org/donate or donate through our website through the link in our profile. Please indicate that you’d like to make a donation in honor of Bradie. Every little bit makes a difference.

They also provide low-cost spay and neuter surgeries and humane education programs in local schools.

When the cat who’s residing in the kennel we’re sponsoring is adopted, we’ll be assigned a new cat, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on each cat’s progress as they await a forever home. We’re excited to learn just which cat we’ll all be sponsoring next week and hopefully we can share their photos and stories on social media to help find this feline a new forever home!
