Knowing that there’s no place like home for the holidays, an iconic department store in San Francisco is helping adorable adoptables find loving pet parents this Christmas season.

From November 16, 2012 until January 1, 2013 the window displays at Macy’s Union Square location will showcase cuddly kittens and playful puppies from the San Francisco SPCA.

“We are grateful to be partnering with Macy’s again this year” said Jason Walthall, SF SPCA Co-President. “Holiday Windows provides us with a unique opportunity to help animals in need. The event not only helps homeless animals find new families, but it also raises awareness about important animal welfare issues such as pet overpopulation and homelessness.”

To promote the paws cause, at 5 p.m. on November 16th Mayor Willie Brown and 49ers running back LaMicheal James will unveil the series of San Francisco neighborhood-themed windows displays which will provide a jolly backdrop for the little barking buddies and purring pals who will wow the crowds with their playful antics in the days ahead.

Celebrating the spirit of the season, on National Believe Day (December 14th) Macy’s will match all donations collected outside the Holiday Windows, up to $1,000.

Throughout the holiday window pet adoption campaign, the San Francisco SPCA will also waive the adoption fee on adult animals adopted from the permanent SF SPCA Adoption Center at 250 Florida Street.

Volunteers are still needed to help make this the most wonderful time of the year for San Francisco’s orphan pets. Helpers will greet the public, collect donations, and direct visitors to the San Francisco SPCA pop-up adoption center inside Macy’s. Groups are welcome, and children are invited to volunteer alongside their parents.
