She is about four years old and has been in the shelter since February when she was rescued as a stray. The folks at the shelter say that Fanta is a very sweet, loving cat who just needs a chance at a forever home.

Fanta is spayed, up to date on her shots, microchipped and is house trained. She will make a great pet for the lucky family that adopts her.

Cats everywhere are saying “I’m ready for my close up, Mister DeMeow” as Friskies has announced the call for entries for the best new internet cat videos of the year for the 2nd annual “The Friskies” Awards.

Through July 15, 2013 cat video creators can go to TheFriskies.com and upload videos up to 2 minutes in length for one of the following categories:

  • Cat Comedy: Your feline friend(s) in an humorous situation
  • Catventure: An indoor cat adventure
  • Rescue Cat: Your former rescue/shelter cat(s) enjoying life
  • Pursuit of Food/Treat: Your purring pal(s) pursuing or engaging with their cat food or treat(s)

The judging panel, consisting of “Henri le Chat Noir” creator Will Braden, 2012 Grand Prize Winner of The Friskies, Mick Szdlowski and Adopt-A-Pet.com’s Executive Director Abbie Moore will evaluate the entries and select 20 semi-finalists (five from each category) using following criteria:

  • originality and overall artistic impression (25%)
  • audience appeal and entertainment quality (25%)
  • sense that there’s a story being told (25%)
  • portraying a cat’s perspective (25%)

Twenty Semi-Finalists, who will be awarded a one-year supply of Friskies® cat food and Friskies® Party Mix brand cat treats, will be announced on August 6, 2013 to mark the start of the public voting phase of the contest, which will last through noon ET on September 16th. Based on the popular vote, the top three from each category will be named Finalists and will travel to New York City to attend “The Friskies” Award Show on October 15, 2013.

Comic/cat parent Michael Ian Black will host the event, presenting a Friskies Catuette and $5,000 cash prizes (totaling $25,000) to winners in four categories and the popular Fan Favorite, based on public text vote on the day of the awards presentation. The show will be broadcast live on www.TheFriskies.com.

“Films may have the OSCARS®, but cat videos have ‘The Friskies,’ and I can’t wait to host the show,” said Black. “It’s going to be unlike anything you’ve ever seen. ”

A happening with heart, Friskies also will award more than 250,000 cans of Friskies cat food to 20 cat charity organizations nationwide as part of the program. To help to generate an additional donation of 500 cans per charity (up to 5,000 cans total), check out Friskies on Twitter and Facebook.

The star has joined Purina® Cat Chow®’s 50 Years. 50 Shelters program, which– in celebration of the cat food company’s 50th anniversary– is showing support for shelters across the country with donations of product and funds.

Through June 14th, a simple click of the mouse is all it takes to turn a vote for your state’s local shelter into a donation. Animal advocate Beth Stern, who currently hosts the Nat Geo Wild series Spoiled Rotten Pets, stopped by Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah on June 3rd to shine a spotlight on some adorable adoptables who are looking to land a starring role in the life of a loving pet parent.

A proud Mom to a meowing menagerie of four rescue cats, the wife of America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern became fast friends with Consti, one of the 1,700 cats, canines and other companion animals who enjoy the comfort and care of the red rock canyon country facility as they wait for the day when they are adopted.

Touring all of the animal care areas during her stay at the sanctuary, Beth Stern is just one of the animal-loving luminaries who have visited Best Friends Animal Society in recent days. In May Jackson Galaxy from the Animal Planet series My Cat from Hell helped to promote the renowned rescue organization’s sleepover program, which offers participants the opportunity to enjoy quality time with one of Best Friends’ resident Fidos or felines while the sanctuary gains insight into the animal’s reaction to the home-like environment.

Today is National Hug Your Cat Day (although Linus, Felix, Inca, and Coco say EVERY day is hug your cat day in our house!) This was the very first photo we took of our little Inca, then six months old, when we got her home from the shelter.

He is about 2-1/2 years old and is a calm, mellow cat who likes people of all ages, including children. Lucky likes to play and enjoys cuddling with his humans.

Lucky is neutered, up to date on his shots and is house trained. He has tested negative for feline leukemia.
