Actor Alistair McGowan Adopts Rescue Kitten

Black cats are considered symbols of good luck in the UK, and fortune certainly smiled on one fortuitous feline when he landed a starring role in the heart and home of a celebrity.

Known to British TV audiences from his BBC series The Big Impression, and by television viewers on this side of the pond from the Nia Vardalos comedy My Life in Ruins and the PBS presentation of Bleak House, stand-up comic and actor Alistair McGowan and his fiancee Charlotte Page adopted a six-month-old kitten named Timmy from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London over the Easter weekend.

Alistair said: “We were so excited about collecting Timmy, it felt like Christmas morning! I grew up with cats and have always been a cat person. Our eighteen year old cat Baby Boy died in November, and we finally felt ready to bring a new cat into our home. We know we’ll never be able to replace Baby Boy, but we hope to make some great new memories with Timmy.”

Just seven weeks old when he and his four siblings were found next to a supermarket recycling center in December, Timmy is just one of the more than 2,700 cats who received comfort and care last year at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. (Note: All of Timmy’s brothers and sisters now have loving pet parents.)

Alistair McGowan is the latest animal-loving luminary to find a feline friend at Battersea. Other high-profile pet parents who turned to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home to adopt a purring pal include actress Prunella Scales (the star of the Britcom classic Fawlty Towers) and Prime Minister David Cameron.
