Driven to help shelter animals, Indy Car Series driver Josef Newgarden and his purring pal Simba are helping to steer public interest in the option of adoption by taking part in Best Friends Animal Society’s Save Them All campaign.
Newgarden’s friendship with his feline began at a 2013 photo shoot for a paws cause. Paired with the adorable adoptable kitten for the Show Your Soft Side campaign to end animal abuse, the tiny kitten from Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) raced straight into the sport star’s heart and home.
“When I met my cat Simba, there was an immediate connection and I knew by adopting him I’d have a friend for life,” Newgarden stated. “Knowing that more than 9,000 adoptable cats and dogs are killed in our nation’s shelters every single day is unacceptable to me so I wanted to do my part to promote adoption, foster. spay/neuter. If we work together, we can Save Them All.”
By posing for the Best Friends Animal Society campaign, the race car driver has followed in the tracks of fellow famous fans of felines and Fidos, including Nils Lofgren of The E Street Band, actress Denise Richards, Animal Planet personality Jackson Galaxy of My Cat from Hell fame, Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba and actor Danny Trejo.
Since its start in 1984 Best Friends Animal Society has been a driving force in reducing the euthanasia rate in US shelters from 17 million to 4 million each year.
