In the spirit of Olympic competition they faced off on the ice in Sochi, but in the spirit of compassion sports stars will team together to offer an assist to pets in need at an upcoming Athletes for Animals fundraiser.
St. Louis Blues players Alex Pietrangelo (who now has a gold medal as a member of the Canadian Olympic hockey team), Patrik Berglund (who earned a silver medal along with the rest of Sweden’s team), Vladimir Tarasenki (who represented Russia during the games) and U.S. team platters Kevin Strattenkirk and David Backes will be among the attendees at the upcoming Stars of Sochi event, which will raise funds for Backes’s charity, Athletes for Animals.
Taking place on March 16th at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse in St. Louis, Missouri, Blues buffs will have the chance to pose for a picture with the players, sip cocktails, sample tasty treats, and place bids of an array of autographed memorabilia.
Established in 2013 by St. Louis Blues captain David Backes and his wife Kelly, Athletes for Animals is a non-profit which offers financial assistance to rescue organizations, promotes the option of adoption and educates the public about responsible pet guardianship.
When: March 16, 2014 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Where: Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar at 1855 South Lindbergh Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri
