During the dog days of summer a clowder of cathletes will try to claw their way to victory as they step up to the plate to play ball and pitch the idea of pet adoption.

On July 12, 2015 television viewers will be sitting in the catbird seat when they tune in to the Hallmark Channel for the first-ever Paw Star Game. Hosted by TV personality/North Shore Animal League America spokesperson Beth Stern, the day of play– which follows in the paw prints of Hallmark’s popular Kitten Bowl— will also include “catty” commentary by John Sterling (the voice of the New York Yankees) and sports analyst Mary Carillo.

Along with cat lovers cheering from home, the kittens wo go to bat will also get some celebrity support from the following famous fans of felines:

  • Ed Asner (Lou Grant, The Mary Tyler Moore Show)
  • Camren Bicoldova (Gotham)
  • Deidre Hall (Day of Our Lives)
  • Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica)
  • Mario Lopez (Saved By the Bell, Extra)
  • Heather McDonald (comedienne, New York Times best-selling author)
  • Maria Menounos (TV journalist)
  • Dawn Olivieri (House of Lies, Heroes)
  • Al Roker (Today)

The line up of kits who will wear mitts for the Gold Crown Catamounts, North Shore Bengals, Mystery Meercats and Keepsake Cougars include kittens whose names are nods to notable baseball greats, such as Jose Catseco, “Bootless” Joe Catson, Joe DiMeowgio, Mickey Meowntle, Wade Pawggs, Darryl Pawberry, Rod Purrew, Bombaybe Ruth, Siamese Sosa, Willie Strays and more.

The Paw Star Game airs July 12th at 5/4c on The Hallmark Channel.
