Scandal Star Bellamy Young Promotes Option of Pet Adoption

A star of the hit ABC series Scandal has stepped into her real life role as a loving pet parent to shine a spotlight on The Shelter Pet Project.

Bellamy Young (who shares her home with two fur adopted fur babies– a cat named Sadie and a dog dubbed Bean) recently joined with The Humane Society of The United States, Maddie’s Fund and The Ad Council to film a video for the “Meet My Shelter Pet” series, a campaign which promotes the option of adoption by highlighting the happiness of the human/pet bond.

The star stated: “I’m proud to encourage folks to explore the wonders of adopting a new furry family member, and I hope as many animals as possible find their forever homes with some help from this video. Shelter pets are the most loving, loyal companions imaginable, and we are so lucky to share our lives with them. Just when you think you’re saving them, they save you right back.”

By filming a “Meet My Shelter Pet” video, Bellamy Young has followed in the footsteps of such famous friends of Fidos and felines as The Vampire DiariesTorrey DeVitto and The Late Show with David Letterman‘s Paul Shaffer and his daughter, Victoria.

Although 43 percent of our feline friends and 35 percent of our barking buddies living in homes across the U.S. today found their pet parents through shelters and rescue organizations, there are still 2.4 million healthy and treatable companion animals in shelters each year who are not lucky enough to find families to love.
