Kitten Summer Games
On August 5th athletes from around the globe gather in Rio de Janeiro to compete in the 2016 Olympic Summer Games. On the same day a virtual clowder of cathletes will celebrate the spirit of competition (or should that be compurrtition?) as The Hallmark Channel unleashes the Kitten Summer Games.

Calicoes who can perform cartwheels and Siamese with swift feet are currently showing off their skills in the Kitten Summer Games trials. All of the cathletes will be chosen from North Shore Animal League America and Last Hope Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation. The sports special will be hosted by Beth Stern, with renowned sports announcer Mary Carillo shining a spotlight on the competitors as they show off their skills in kitten renditions of gymnastics, balance beam, rings, uneven bars, the de-CAT-hlon, track and field, pole vault, high jump, volleyball, tennis and wrestling.

Along with television viewers, an array of professional athletes and celebrities– including NFL football pro Rob Gronkowski, Olympic medalist and World Cup champion Brandi Chastain, professional snowboarder and Olympic medalist Lindsey Jacobellis, and more– will be cheering on the adoptables who will be going for the gold as they dream of finding a forever pet parent with a heart of gold. (NOTE: All of the kittens will find forever families to love when filming of the TV special concludes.)

The Kitten Summer Games will continue The Hallmark Channel’s commitment to promoting pet adoption. The network has previously helped the paws cause by selecting adoptables for Kitten Bowl I and II, and will once again partner with North Shore Animal League America to host nationwide adoption drives prior to the premiere of Kitten Summer Games. The upcoming feline sports event is part of Hallmark Channel’s evergreen initiative, Pet Project, which is devoted to celebrating shelter pets and the joy they bring to our lives.
