Simon’s Cat Explains Why Cats Love Boxes

Share with fellow cat lovers!

simon2-2Our pals who purr always seem to prefer playing with the cardboard box which contained a cat themed-product purchased just to please them rather than with the item itself.   A situation which never fails to perplex pet parents, Simon’s Cat creator Simon Tofield draws attention to this quirky and confusing cat behavior in a new video, “Why Do Cats Love Boxes?”

According to Cats Protection Cat Behavior Specialist Nicky Trevorrow, fans of felines must think inside the box in order to comprehend a cat’s compulsion for cardboard boxes. Along with the fact that the snug confines of a cardboard box provides cats with a sense of security, Trevorrow states that: “All cats need to be able to hide, not just the scaredy-cats and not just when there’s fireworks outside.”

Cartoonist Tofield explains that Teddy, one of his four feline family members, acted as a muse (or should that be mews?) for the rib-tickling tutorial that shines a light on this puzzling feline phenomenon.

‘Why Do Cats Love Boxes?’ is the latest comical clip in a series of Simon’s Cat Logic videos created to explain kitty comportment. Other videos include “Do Cats Fall in Love?“, ‘Why Do Cats Have a ‘Crazy Time‘?” and “In or Out? Why are Cats So Indecisive?” The clips were made in partnership with Cats Protection. The leading feline welfare charity in the United Kingdom, Cats Protection annually cares for approximately 200,000 cats and kittens at 32 adoption centers and more than 250 volunteer-operated branches.
