Think Cat Condos Mean Beige Carpet? Architects for Animals Unveils Mod Designs to Aid FixNation

When it comes to hammering home the fact that feral cats need our help, top architects and design firms in Los Angeles have nailed it by creating and donating stylish one-of-a-kind cat shelters to protect our homeless purring pals from the elements.

Architects for Animals‘ “Giving Shelter” exhibit will take place on October 19, 2017 at the Herman Miller Showroom in Culver City, California, with this year’s line up of animal-loving architects and architectural firms to benefit FixNation, a Los Angeles-based non-profit which has helped close to 150,000 cats since its start in 2007 through free spay/neuter services for stray and feral cats and low-cost services for domestic cats, as well as through support of Trap-Neuter-Return programs.

As “Giving Shelter” celebrates the organization’s decade of dedication to cats in need, the event will also pay tribute to Mark Dodge, who passed away in February 2017. Mr. Dodge co-founded FixNation with his wife, Karn Myers, in an effort to help the millions of homeless felines living in one of the nation’s largest populations of community cats, Los Angeles.

“Many communities use lethal methods in an attempt to control the population of stray, abandoned and feral cats. Such methods are not only horribly cruel, they simply don’t work,” states Karn Myers, the Executive Director of FixNation. “We founded FixNation because we believe TNR is a much more effective and compassionate alternative. Our mission is to manage colonies of homeless ‘community cats’ and gradually reduce their number through humane sterilization.” ‘

Online Auction of Celebrity-Decorated Cat Food Bowls

Can’t make it to the Giving Shelter exhibition but still want to take part in building a better tomorrow for our feral feline friends? The event will also include a display of celebrity-decorated cat food bowls which will go up for bid in an online auction to help the paws cause. Among the more than two dozen doggedly devoted cat lovers who tapped into their inner PiCATsso for the fundraiser include:

  • Kim Basinger (Academy Award winner)
  • Kristen Bell (Frozen, The Good Place)
