What is the Name of Cat in Hocus Pocus? (TWO Answers!)

Share with fellow cat lovers!

The cat in Hocus Pocus has become a beloved character among fans of the classic Halloween movie. The black feline plays a crucial role in the plot as he helps the main characters defeat the evil Sanderson sisters. Let’s learn the name of the cat in Hocus Pocus–as well as the cat in Hocus Pocus 2! (And could the cat be providing a hint as to the possibility of a Hocus Pocus 3? Watch the post-credit scene and decide for yourself.)

The Cat in Hocus Pocus

The cat in Hocus Pocus is a black domestic shorthair named Thackery Binx. Thackery’s personal story is also an important element of the film. He was originally a human boy who witnessed the Sanderson sisters’ kidnapping of his sister, Emily.

Thackery attempted to rescue his sister, but was caught by the sisters and transformed into a cat. His desire for revenge against the sisters drives much of his actions in the film.

Thackery Binx is initially encountered by the main characters, Max, Dani, and Allison, when they accidentally release the Sanderson sisters from their 300-year imprisonment.

Thackery explains to the trio the history of the Sanderson sisters and their quest for eternal youth, and helps them navigate the dangers of Halloween night in Salem. (Yes, Thackery speaks!)

There’s no doubt that the character of Thackery Binx helped Hocus Pocus become a cult classic over the years since its release in 1993. The film’s popularity has only grown with time, and it has become a staple of Halloween movie marathons.

What’s the Name of the Cat in Hocus Pocus 2?

The Cat in Hocus Pocus 2 is a black cat named Cobweb, owned by a new character named Gilbert. Cobweb lives at Gilbert’s Olde Salem Magic Shoppe, located in the former home of the Sanderson sisters.

Unlike Thackery Binx, Cobweb doesn’t speak (but we all know that cats speak volumes without ever uttering a word.)

Will there be a Hocus Pocus 3?

Cobweb was part of Hocus Pocus 2 right up to the closing credits–and he just might have dropped a clue as to the possibility of a future Hocus Pocus 3. What do you think?
