How Can You Include Your Cat in a Proposal?

Felix Cat Insurance provided a couple of ideas for including your cat in your marriage proposal: have your kitty tote a ring on its collar or pose alongside a romantic bouquet of flowers.

We had to put our heads together and think of a few more. (After all, our very first website covered destination weddings and honeymoons, so this is a topic we spent years writing about!) Think about these ways you might incorporate your cat when it’s time to pop the question!

  1. Custom Collar or Tag: Attach the engagement ring or a note with the proposal message to a new collar or tag on your cat. When your partner notices the new addition, it’ll be a charming surprise.
  2. Photo Shoot with the Cat: Arrange a casual photo shoot with your cat, maybe under the guise of getting some nice pictures together. During the shoot, surprise your partner with the proposal. This way, you’ll have beautiful photos of the moment–including your cat!
  3. Cat-Themed Proposal: If your partner loves all things cat-related, you can organize a cat-themed proposal. This could include decorations, cat-shaped treats, and of course, your cat being part of the setting.
  4. Treasure Hunt: Create a treasure hunt at home with clues leading to different locations, with the final clue attached to your cat or its favorite spot. This builds anticipation and excitement, leading up to the moment you propose.
  5. Customized Cat Outfit: Dress your cat in a customized outfit or bandana that says “Will you marry me?” or something similar. Make sure it’s comfortable for your cat and doesn’t cause any distress.
  6. Quiet Indoor Picnic: Set up a cozy indoor picnic with your partner’s favorite foods, and let your cat be part of the experience. While you’re enjoying the moment, you can pop the question.
  7. Cat-Inspired Art or Puzzle: Commission a custom piece of art or a jigsaw puzzle featuring your cat with a hidden proposal message. As you put together the puzzle or unveil the art, the proposal message becomes clear.
  8. Cat’s POV Video: Create a video from your cat’s perspective, showing it exploring places that are meaningful to your relationship, ending with the proposal scene.

Remember, the key is to consider your cat’s temperament and your partner’s preferences. Ensure that your cat is comfortable and safe during the proposal, and have a backup plan in case your cat doesn’t cooperate as expected. This way, the experience will be fun for everyone involved–and after all, that’s what marriage–and life with cats–is all about!
