Offering pet parents food for thought, Simon’s Cat creator Simon Tofield has teamed up with Cats Protection’s feline behavior expert Nicky Trevorrow to explain the meal time mannerisms of our pals who meow in a new video in the Simon’s Cat Logic series.

Why do cats feel compelled to jump up on the kitchen counter? What smell is repellent to cats and should never be used when it comes time to cleaning your cat’s water and food bowls? The following clip offers the answers, and a free, downloadable Feeding and Obesity leaflet from Cats Protection provides nuggets of information regarding a cat’s balanced diet, reasons why you cat might suddenly become averse to eating, and much more.

The video also shows ways to nourish your cat’s mind at meal time by combining noms with a felines’s natural curiosity. Through play with homemade enrichment toys, such as a cat treat holder made from a pyramid of empty toilet paper rolls, your kitty companion will enjoy ‘hunting’ for food.

Along with advice, the video also gives viewers a giggle thanks to the Simon’s Cat clip, “Feed Me!”

“Things You Didn’t Know About Feeding Time” is the latest in a series of rib-tickling Simon’s Cat Logic tutorials, which have been created by cartoonist Simon Tofield in order to explain the sometimes perplexing comportment of our pals who purr. Other videos in the series include Why Do Cats Have ‘Crazy’ Time?, Do Cats Fall in Love?, Why Do Cats Love Boxes?, In or Out? Why are Cats So Indecisive?, Why Do Cats Sleep in Unusual Places? and How Do Cats Stay So Clean? The videos have been made in partnership with the United Kingdom’s leading feline welfare charity, Cats Protection. Founded in 1927, today there are 32 Cats Protection adoption centers and over 250 volunteer-operated branches, caring for approximately 200,000 felines in need each year.
