Fans of felines in the City of Angeles recently celebrated the opening of a facility that is heaven sent for our pals with paws who long for a taste of the good life– LA’s first cat cafe, Crumbs & Whiskers.
A name which may sound familiar to those keeping tabs on the cat cafe trend, the new Los Angeles ‘catfe’ is following in the paw prints of Crumbs & Whiskers in Washington, DC, which opened its doors in the summer of 2015 to those who adore cats. Both are the brainchild of the proprietor, an animal lover who received the gift of a new direction in life when she celebrated her 24th birthday at a cat cafe in Thailand.
For foodies, the cafe offers classic sweet treats like chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies and beverages ranging from traditional hot chocolate to cat-uccinos, Moroccan mint tea and China black iced tea for those with more adventurous palates, all prepared offsite by Open Space LA.
For those who want to feast their eyes on cute kitties at play, there are adorable adoptables from Karma Rescue, a non-profit that has been saving the lives of companion animals in L.A.’s high kill shelters since 2003. The organization also offers an education program to ignite a passion for compassion in the hearts of members of the next generation who are currently in juvenile prison and second-chance schools; helps to curb pet overpopulation through its spay/neuter program, and through Project Coco helps the pets of families who find themselves in financial distress.
Reservations are required for a 75 minute stay with the cafe’s meowing menagerie. Children must be at least seven years of age to visit the cats at Crumbs & Whiskers, and an adult must sign a minor waiver for youngsters between the ages of 7 – 17. Weekday reservations are $22, weekends $25.
