Skoon Cat Litter Review

Share with fellow cat lovers!

We’re always on the lookout for ways to reduce litterbox odors without perfumes that simply mask the smell. When we heard about Skoon Cat Litter, an all-natural biodegradable cat litter that’s specially designed to absorb liquids rather than clumping them, we wanted to give it a try.

Skoon cat litter designed to be odor free

This post is brought to you by Skoon Cat Litter. All thoughts and opinions are entirely our own.

Temperatures are rising–fast–here in Texas. Now that we’ve reached 100 degrees on many afternoons, our laundry room, which doubles as the litterbox area, can get a little warm, in spite of the best efforts of our air conditioning system.

What Makes Skoon Different As a Cat Litter

From the moment you open the bag (or the box–more on that in a moment), it’s easy to see that Skoon isn’t a traditional cat litter. First off: Skoon cat litter is almost pebble-sized, larger than typical pieces of cat litter:

The litter works like a sponge to absorb liquids and trap the odors. Along with pulling in the liquid urine, the absorbent quality of Skoon helps to dry solids faster, making for easier scooping.

And, speaking of scooping, scooping solids is the only scooping that users of Skoon will have to do, because this isn’t a clumping litter.

Skoon ships with a scoop with slots that are wider than the traditional litter scoop to permit sifting of the larger pebbles.

How Long Does Skoon Cat Litter Last?

Because you aren’t tossing litter with all that scooping, you can also expect a bag of cat litter to last about one month for one cat.

Surprisingly, Skoon is also very lightweight: four times lighter than traditional cat litter. Although the individual pieces are larger, they’re filled with air pockets waiting to absorb liquids, so the weight is considerably less.

Users also have the option to have Skoon shipped with a disposable cardboard litterbox. Each 4-pound box of Skoon should last about 2-3 weeks for one cat.

How to Use Skoon Cat Litter

  1. Add about half a bag of Skoon to your litterbox.
  2. Remove solids.
  3. Instead of scooping urine, you’ll just stir the pebbles to help with absorption the next time your cat uses the box.
  4. When the Skoon pebbles become yellowish, it’s time to toss the litter and add new Skoon.

Our Cats Try Skoon Cat Litter

This all sounded great so we gave Skoon a try with Lucky, Jetty and Inca. A bag of Skoon arrived at our home, and I put it to the test.

Lucky was interested in Skoon immediately.

Honestly, I was a bit concerned that Lucky might not take to the new litter; he has had issues peeing outside the litterbox in the past. I was concerned because of the size of the pebbles but soon saw that concern was unfounded. He took right to the pebbles which have a soft feel to the touch.

How to Transition to Skoon Cat Litter

If your cat is a little finicky about litter changes, work on a slower transition to the new litter.

Place a litterbox with Skoon beside your cat’s old brand, scooping a little less often so that the new box becomes more attractive.

Soon Jetty was ready to check out what all the fuss was about!

In the following days, I scooped the poop and stirred the box each time, just to help absorption. The cat pee was absorbed by Skoon right away, leaving nothing more than some damp pebbles:

We are halfway through the month expected for Skoon to last but so far, so great. There’s NO odor, a huge, huge win in our rising temperatures.

It’s a big paws up for Skoon!
